Celebrating Chögyam Trungpa

Incl. a pre-recorded talk by Changling Rinpoche

Dorje Trollo Chogyam Trungpa

Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche discovered the heart treasure of The Sadhana of Mahamudra in 1968 while on retreat in Bhutan. At a key juncture in his life, he was seeking a way to bring the teachings of the Buddha to the West. This revealed treasure terma, is a poetic and visual expression of the essential teachings of Buddhism, which he immediately made available to all his students. It also carries the distinct warning against "spiritual materialism," ego's attempt to co-opt the spiritual path for it's own self-centered gains.

With little or no commentary, a practitioner at any stage of the path can experience the power and presence of this practice. And yet, the sadhana is so jam-packed with teachings that a closer exploration rewards us and makes the practice even more powerful. Delving into the details and moving parts at the heart of the sadhana doesn’t dry up the magic – it enhances it. It’s a gift that keeps on giving.

Changling Rinpoche received teachings and transmissions from His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. When Rinpoche was 12 years old, he entered the Shechen Shedra and completed his studies at the age of 20. He has continued to teach at the shedra and has been in charge of teaching the monastics the ritual traditions of the Shechen lineage.

Rinpoche, who teaches in English, has taught extensively in Australia and North America, within our Shambhala mandala since 2004. His humour and joyous confidence are infectious and inspiring. He is an excellent translator and has been working with the Nalanda Translation Committee since 2008.

He recently coordinated the translation and publication of Songs of Realization and Pith Instructions by Khenpo Gangshar.
