Ruthlessly Severing Ego-clinging

Chöd practice was developed by the eleventh-century yogini Machig Labdrön. It is a generosity practice designed to sever ego-clinging, especially clinging to one's body. Traditionally Chöd practitioners would go to the charnel grounds and visualize offering their body to diseases, fears, personal demons and other frightening elements. Making this kind of offering directly confronts one's attachment to body and life.

The annual chöd gathering returns to Karmê Chöling

For many years KCL has offered a place for students to practice ‘Chö Lüjin’ as a group. It was here that Khenpo Rinpoche gave teachings on initiations and had the practice translated into English.

We will again be gathering at Karmê Chöling to do this practice, both individually and as a group. Please join us if:

  • You are a chöd practitioner of any sort and would like to practice Chöd in English.
  • You have finished your ngondro and would like to try this practice.

Come to our full retreat gathering with the first two days (Tues. and Wed. Sept 17 -18) being guided. Except for the first two days, participants can come and go as they need to.

In additiona, we will practice Karma Chagme’s ‘Song of the Mother,’ a short guru yoga for Machig Labdrön.

There is also a Weekend Only Chöd practice. This will not include the instructions for the practice. You are able to come and go as needed during the weekend.

Taking her teachers’ examples to heart, Kristine is a householder and lives with her partner in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, between the mountain and the ocean.
